Holding Space During the Holidays

The holiday season is often wrapped in lights, music, and expectations of joy. Yet for many, this time of year carries a different weight. Grief lingers. Sickness interrupts routines. Loss, loneliness, and unanswered prayers feel heavier when the world insists on cheer.

Acknowledging this reality does not make anyone less of a believer.

Faith does not require constant happiness. Faith requires honesty. Scripture reminds us that even the most faithful servants of God experienced sorrow, fatigue, and moments of deep anguish. Jesus Himself wept. He withdrew. He grieved. Still, He remained fully obedient and fully loved.

We all know the real reason for the season. The birth of Christ was not wrapped in comfort or ease. It arrived in humility, disruption, and uncertainty. Mary carried promise and pressure at the same time. Joseph walked forward without every answer. Shepherds were tending sheep in the dark when heaven broke through.

“Fear not: for, behold, I bring you good tidings of great joy, which shall be to all people. For unto you is born this day in the city of David a Saviour, which is Christ the Lord.”

Luke 2:10–11, KJV

Good news came into a broken world. It still does.

If this season feels hard, it does not mean your faith is weak. It means you are human. Grief does not cancel gratitude. Sadness does not erase salvation. Struggle does not disqualify belief.

What this season invites is not perfection, but presence.

Forgive where bitterness has taken root. Love even when energy feels low. Seek His presence rather than the pressure of presents, performances, or appearances. God is not impressed by how well we decorate our pain. He desires our hearts, exactly as they are.

“Come unto me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.”

Matthew 11:28, KJV

Rest is holy. Honesty is faithful. Quiet moments with God matter more than loud celebrations without Him.

This holiday season, extend grace to yourself and to others. Some smiles are brave. Some silences are sacred. Some prayers are whispered through tears. God is near in all of it.

Christ came not to demand joy, but to bring peace.

May this season remind us that His presence sustains us far more than any present ever could.
